The B.A.R.F. Diet for Dogs
March 5th 2009 21:20
The new semi-controversial diet is the Bones and Raw Food Diet, or more commonly known as the B.A.R.F. Diet. There are many people feeding their dogs, and some cats, the raw food diet, but there are many others who just don't see the reasoning or safety behind it.
Well, I am undecided as to how I feel about feeding my dog raw meats, but I will admit that I see many benefits from doing so. Although, I do not feel that today's domestic dogs have the same digestive tract as their ancestors, or even wild dogs and wolves today, I do see where the raw meats can provide more nutrients than cooked, processed, and kibbled meats.
If you are interested in feeding your dog on the BARF diet, you'll want to make sure that you do all the research that you can. Your regular, conventional veterinarian may not have much to tell you about the diet as it is a more holistic and unconventional diet, so if you want to speak with a professional caretaker, you will want to find a holistic veterinarian in your state that you can speak with to get a professional's point of view. Otherwise, you will find that the internet is a wide and varied source of information that can help you get started learning about the BARF Diet for your dog.
Just remember that the more you learn about the diet, the better off you and your dog will be, as you will be more knowledgeable about what foods your dog should have in his diet and what they will do for him nutritionally.

Just make sure that if you have any questions or concerns, that you do not start your dog on the Bones and Raw Food Diet until you are 100 percent sure that it is what you want to do because the diet change is a big commitment on your part. No more days of just opening the dog food and pouring it in your dog's bowl.
