Bengal Cats

Although, I am not the biggest cat person in the world, I will be one of the first to admit that there are a number of gorgeous cat breeds available to willing buyers and cat lovers. The Bengal Cat is just one of the breeds, or hybrids rather, that I will readily admit to being a nice looking cat.

The Bengal is a relatively new cat breed hybrid. It is a hybrid of the Asian Leopard Cat bred with selective domestic cats. And, over generations, the Bengal is now a very desirable cat with its wild appearance, yet gentle and playful temperament.

Bengal cats are typically going to be brown, seal lynx point, mink, sepia, and silver with various spotted or marbled patterns. You may find other colors and even long hair Bengal cats, but typically in show competitions, these are not accepted.

Bengals have been selectively bred to have the appearance of a large, wild cat, but they actually fall within the weight and size limits of a regular, domestic cat. They generally range about 7 to 10 pounds for males or 9 to 12 for females, but it's not uncommon to find a male weighing 15 to 18 pounds.

These cats are large boned and well-muscled, typically reaching their full potential around two years of age.

Generally, as for appearance, the face will have distinct stripes along the eye trailing towards the neck, and the sides and top of the body are marked with spots, with the rest of the body, tail and legs marked with stripes. So, as you can see the Bengal cat is truly a remarkably bred cat for his appearance.

You will find that the Bengal is not only different in appearance when compared to a regular cat, as well as general body build in terms of bone and muscle, but their coat is much silkier and satiny than an average domestic cat. Plus, you'll find the Bengals have a different vocal sound than a regular cat, both genders- male and female- being very vocal at times.

The life expectancy for a Bengal is about 12 to 16 years, on average.
