Bo's First Press Conference with Obama
April 16th 2009 18:40
Personally, I find the Obama's choice of dog not the right one or the perfect one, but hey I wasn't asked. First off, they should have adopted from a shelter; they did not rescue the dog that the received as a gift- a gift that many feel was staged even down to the breeding, initial purchase, and return of the dog. Second, it being a purebred not rescued from a breed rescue, tons of others will probably follow him, and thirdly the breed is high strung and high energy, meaning they'll probably end up in shelters because the people that go out and buy one won't do the research to realize that the breed doesn't fit their lifestyle.
I also don't think that the Obama's have enough time for a breed with so much energy, and you can see from the pictures of Bo's first press conference, that he's definitely an energetic puppy. But, at the same time, the Obama's can get dog trainers, dog walkers, and pooper scooper boys to take care of the dog, if need be. I mean, the president just can't get rid of his dog after the news broke away from pirates and recession updates to announce that the dog was going to arrive and that he had arrive.
Besides Nixon's dog Checkers and his Checkers' speech, Bo is probably one of the more famous and publicized presidential dogs... Well, Clinton did have a big story when he adopted Buddy from an animal shelter. But, seriously! Let's interrupt world news for the breaking announcement about Bo, the Portuguese Water Dog.
This whole situation will die down in a few days, but I'll be one of the first to tell you how sick I am of hearing about the presidential dog. Don't get me wrong those little girls deserve a dog, but seriously... There are much more pressing issues at hand that what dog the President will get, what the family will name him, and whatever else. I mean, we might as well know what food the dog's being fed and what his favorite toys are. (It's probably out there, though)
