You can use household items as cheap reptile hides. Paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, cereal boxes, and just about anything that is stable enough to stand and create a dark place that the reptile can hide in.
You may even consider making a fake rock hide, using cool whip containers or glad tupperware containers. I've used these and they're great for stability, climbing area, and a hide.
