Introducing a New Dog to the House
October 3rd 2009 18:44
When you get another dog and you have pets or children at home, you want to make sure that you're equipped enough to know how to deal with the introductions. More than likely you've been thinking about and probably planning on getting the new dog, but even if it was just a spur of the moment thing, it's still very important that you understand how to keep the introductions civil.
First impressions are very important, and if the first impression isn't good or doesn't go as planned, it may make for a hard time.
Keep in mind that the dog is probably nervous and scared. You don't want to through him to the wolves with children running at him and hugging him or other pets running towards him sniffing and possibly trying to play.
Some dogs may adapt near-about immediately, but some dogs take their time. You want to go at the dog's pace. Never try to force the dog to interact if he's just not quite ready yet.
