Yeast Infection in Dogs - Dog Ear Infection
Yeast infections in dogs are fairly common, especially among certain dog breeds that have floppy ears with hair in the ear canal. The easiest way to prevent an ear yeast infection is to regularly clean your dog's ears and keep them dry.
But, if you think that your dog may have an ear infection, you'll want to pay attention to the following signs of a yeast infection.
•Brown, yellow, or bloody discharge
•Head shaking or tilting
•Loss of balance
•Loss of hearing
•Odor in the ear
•Redness or swelling
•Scabs around the opening of the ear
If a vet has determined that your dog does have a yeast infection, what you'll want to do is to treat him before it worsens. The sooner you begin treatment, the better your dog will recover.
There are prescriptions that yoru vet can offer to help cure the infection. There are also home remedies for yeast infections that you may want to consider.
Some people use diluted apple cider vinegar in the ear, but others may use the following home remedies.
1. Macerate two cloves of garlic in olive oil and let the mixture stand for about two weeks before straining it. Put about 2 to 3 drops of the warm oil into the dog's ear daily until the infection has been treated. Because it takes 2 weeks to make this treatment, this is only ideal for those who have dogs who are prone to yeast infections.
2. Purchase organic, probiotic yogurt and apply a small amount to the ear and rub in well. The priobiotics will help treat and fight off the yeast infection.
3. Mix the below ingredients to make an ear cleaner that you you'll want to put into the dog's ear. Gently massage the base of the ear to spread the oil.
•1 oz Neem oil
•˝ oz Olive oil
•1 teaspoon Tea Tree oil
•˝ teaspoon Eucalyptus oil
