Benefits of Outdoor Dogs
April 2nd 2009 19:24
When keeping a dog outside, you've probably already thought it out, and there's probably nothing that anyone can say to change your mind. Otherwise, please consider all the benefits of keeping indoor dogs.
I personally, find that it is overall a better deal to keep a dog in the house than outside, but if I had to absolutely pick a few benefits of keeping dogs outside all of the time, here are a few of the ones that I can think of.
* You don't have to worry about the dog chewing your furniture, shoes, rugs, etc. (Although training can prevent and correct this problem).
* You don't have to worry about accidents on the floor (Training can correct this).
* You don't have to worry about your allergies acting up.
* You don't have to worry about offending your guests when the dog misbehaves (Training assist with this, as can putting the dog outside when you know you are expecting guests)
For the most part, though, remember that dogs are pack animals, and they prefer to be with your than all alone out side behind a fence. Also consider that dogs that are kept in the yard all the time, are more likely to try to escape. They are also more likely to bite or chase someone when given the opportunity.
You should never leave a dog outside during weather extremes, and you should always have a secure place for your dog to hide and sleep when he wants to get away (even in normal weather).

Crates are fantastic, you always know you dog is safe if it's shut in its crate, which is important because some of our dogs don't like each other.
